Old Stone House Visitor Center Rock Creek Park U S. National Park Service

It also served as a club house for a winter skating team,[7] and then for the professional baseball team called the Brooklyn Superbas, which would later be known as the Brooklyn Dodgers before their move to Ebbets Field. The Old Stone House sits on the site of the original Washington Park, and across Fourth Avenue from the second Washington Park, two of the oldest professional baseball stadiums in New York. The left-center field wall from the second Washington Park is still visible on Third Avenue between First and Third Streets.

"White plasterboard covered the walls and ceiling, and carpeted floors smothered the first-floor nave, with crude interventions from the '90s haphazardly altering the building use into a compromised family home," it explained. This involved stripping back walls, reorganising the ground-floor bedrooms and creating a "grand main hall" on the first floor with an open-plan living, dining and kitchen area, Tuckey Design Studio said. Google Street Views doesn't take pictures moving along the paths like they do in Central Park, so the closest I could come to a matching photo of the location was this one that I found on the web.

After Moses Jewett's death, the house passed through several owners over the years. It was converted into the Brownington Inn during the early 20th century. Then in the late 1960s, the house was purchased by the Orleans County Historical Society and opened as a museum.

The stately two-story stone house was built in 1842 by Moses Jewett. Jewett was a local lawyer and statesman who served several terms in the Vermont legislature. The land was originally part of a larger farm owned by Jewett's father. Jewett commissioned the construction of the stone house in the popular Greek Revival style, using granite quarried from the surrounding hills.

With a huge variety of local and international foods and treats, Grand Central Market satisfies those with even the pickiest palates. From prepared meals and groceries to beverages and sweets, there’s no shortage of delicious dishes at this historic eatery and gathering place, which has been in operation continuously since 1917. On the opposite side of the living room, a formal dining space features built-in cabinetry.

Our beautiful playground has separate playspaces for toddlers, elementary and middle-school aged children. For neighborhood families, we run after-school, winter break and summer programs. Many of these materials are reclaimed, including wooden floorboards and terracotta tiles, sourced from local construction sites and reclamation yards. A single-storey extension has been added to the southwest corner of Old Chapel to enlarge the ground-floor space for a generous family bathroom and small study. A timber box reminiscent of a wooden pulpit has been tucked into the eaves of the kitchen to create space for an additional ensuite bedroom.

They wanted to go out to the country, since their first album cover was shot in a studio. In this shot from the back of a CD, the Byrds are on horses high above Topanga Canyon Road, possibly on the property. It's unclear whether the stone house or the house next to it was a base of operations for a riding stable back in the late 60's...

In high contrast to the surrounding neighborhood, OSH and its grounds harken back to an older Brooklyn where people subsisted, at least in part, on food they could grow and forage themselves. During this time of social distancing, the public can experience in-progress images of the new work online, and virtual workshops with the artists. Many of the projects include online or outdoor components that can be experienced by a wide audience. We invite the public to submit photos of their own Brooklyn Utopias with the hashtag #BrooklynUtopias2020 and by tagging @oldstonehousebklyn. Visit our online exhibition to learn more about the artists and events.

London practice Tuckey Design Studio has revamped a house in a converted chapel in Devon, England, revealing and restoring the building's original features. Cara's home went up in flames, sparking a massive response from the fire department, with the dramatic scene even caught on video. Which, according to her rep at the time, she would never recover from. Now let's look at the locations of the photo shoots for two other Byrds albums, both of which were photographed, though five years apart, in Griffith Park, Los Angeles.

This program was supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, in partnership with City Councilmember David Greenfield. Andrew is a founding member and former president of the Long Beach New York Arts Council. He has participated in exhibits in New York, Chicago and Philadelphia. He received a Dean’s Grant from Nippon Steel, graduate grants from SAIC, a critics recommendation to the Vermont Studio School and the Yale Norfolk School of Art, and has served as an adjunct professor and a panel critic. He studied at The Glasgow School of Art and earned his MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. During the Battle of Brooklyn in August 1776, soldiers from the First Maryland Regiment engaged a superior force of British and Hessian soldiers on the land around Claes Vechte's house.

Litchfield was the major landowner of the farmland in the area at that time and sold much of his land to the city for the creation of Prospect Park. The current structure is a 1933 reconstruction, using some original materials, of the Vechte–Cortelyou House, which was destroyed in 1897. The original house was an important part of the 1776 Battle of Long Island during the American Revolutionary War. The Old Stone House is situated at the center of Washington Park/JJ Byrne Playground, a 3.5 acre recreation site. We are devoted to supporting the Friends of Washington Park, and developing programming that enriches the site.

Amy Khoshbin is an Iranian-American Brooklyn-based artist, activist, and educator. She pushes the formal and conceptual boundaries of artmaking to foster progressive social change through performance, social practice, video, rap music, installation, tattooing, teaching and writing. She has received residencies at spaces such as The Watermill Center, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, Project for Empty Space, Anderson Ranch, and Banff Centre for the Arts. She has received a Franklin Furnace Fund and a Rema Hort Mann Artist Community Engagement Grant.

Once L.A.’s first private power plant, The Edison is now a steampunk-themed underground bar, lounge, restaurant and performance space that integrates remnants of the building’s 105-year-old history into its interior design. Whether you’re going to drink, eat, dance, catch a show or all of the above, the Edison is an eye-popping design marvel that is sure to leave a lasting impression. The Last Bookstore sells more than 250,000 new and used books and magazines. In addition to its vast selection of titles across all genres, the store itself is a must-see for its interior design alone. Not only are there books for sale, but printed material is adapted to create a unique environment where novels, anthologies, manuals and storybooks actually become a part of the store's own layout, too. Don’t miss the mezzanine level, which includes the Labyrinth Above the Last Bookstore (the back room sells 100,000 books for $1 each!), Gather Yarn Shop, and the Spring Arts Collective gallery shops.
