cruise lines from galveston

After more than 20 years as a cruise port, Galveston has added a third, state-of-the-art cruise terminal and new ships and cruise lines all within the span of a single year. In addition to its cruise offerings, the adjacent city of Galveston is well suited for vacationers of all ages, with a variety of accommodation offerings and plenty of activities to enjoy. Cruisers looking for a great value when it comes to driving in for their Galveston cruise can consider a stay at the Holiday Inn Resort Galveston (On The Beach, an IHG Hotel).

Port's current schedule has two liners leaving on Saturdays, two on Sundays, one on Mondays, one on Thursdays. Every 2 years is conducted ship channel/waterfront dredging to maintain the port's required water depth of 45 ft (14 m). The shipping channel is also regularly deepened to maintain a 150-ft (46-m) wide waterfront marine zone that allows access to piers 10 and 41. In January 2014, the port signed a 5-year agreement with Royal Caribbean, generating USD 1,86+ million in annual revenues. The agreement required improvements to be made to Cruise Terminal 2 (Terminal 28) to accommodate larger vessels and more tourists.

Galveston is Texas State's only homeport and was accounted for 6,3% of the USA's cruise industry overall spending, 6,2% of the industry's total employment impact, 7,6% of its income impact. In 2018, the port's passenger+crew arrivals were ~1,4 million (estimated USD 115M in ashore spending/goods and services). For any cruises listed, Cruise Critic does not guarantee any specific rates or prices. Regal Princess is based in Galveston on a seasonal basis from November to March. It operates some of the longest sailings from the Texas port, including 10- and 11-night trips to Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, Honduras, Belize and Mexico.

Galveston is the second (after Corpus Christi) LNG bunkering port served by Stabilis (2013-founded, Houston Texas-based turnkey LNG company, part of LNG Investment Company LLC). Port Galveston (locode USGLS) is located on mainland Texas' upper coast and on the island's eastern end. The Port Authority company (Board of Trustees of the Galveston Wharves) is city-owned, self-sustaining and doesn't receive city property taxes. Notably, the 3,600-passenger Regal Princess lacks nearly all the gee-whiz attractions for families found on the other ships that sail out of Galveston. You won't find big waterslides, kiddie splash zones, zip lines or go-kart tracks on this ship.

Our sunset cruise is designed to allow ample time for wildlife viewing, relaxation, and, of course, to savor the sunset itself. Comfortable and casual attire is recommended for a sunset cruise. As temperatures can drop in the evening, bringing along a light jacket or sweater is advisable. In drier months (usually November through April), deep oranges and purples dominate during sunset hours due to less moisture scattering longer wavelength light before reaching us.

When you come aboard our yachts, you can expect unmatched service, exquisite views and a delicious meal aboard America’s first 3-Diamond rated dining yacht. Experience stunning Clearwater sunsets or the bright city lights of Downtown Tampa as you sip and savor your way through our upscale cuisine and cocktails. On the St. Pete Beach Sunset Cruise, you will have much more privacy and less crowds.

That person is none other than our expert captain, Dan Jolitz. You might even catch sight of sea turtles popping their heads above water or schools of fish shimmering below – all adding an extra layer of excitement to your adventure. The magic of the setting sun painting the sky with a breathtaking palette, coupled with Florida’s tranquil Gulf Coast ambiance, is simply mesmerizing. Raised in Ocean City, MD, Captain Darryl has spent most of his life on the water. Having moved back to the St. Petersburg, FL area in 2008, he and his wife later decided to get people on the waters of Tampa Bay and with that, Tampa Bay Fun Boat was formed.

Our captain will drive the pontoon boat so you can relax and enjoy the sunset. After a short cruise down the channel we head for the open Gulf. We also have state-of-the-art GPS, so we should not get lost in the dark. You can bring your own snacks, we don't mind. We are located in New Port Richey, 30 minutes from Clearwater Beach and 60 minutes from St Petersburg and St. Pete Beach. Island Way Excursions’ Tampa Bay sunset cruises offer more than just stunning views. They’re a passport to wildlife encounters, birdwatching bonanzas, and nature conservation efforts.

It also hosts waterfront restaurants perfect for post-cruise dining experiences if time permits. The term ‘Sunset Coast’ isn’t just a fancy moniker for Florida’s Gulf coast. It’s an apt description of what you can expect to see when you’re out on a Tampa Bay sunset cruise with Island Way Excursions. But, ever wondered why these sunsets are so mesmerizing? The geography of the flat, expansive Tampa Bay and Anna Maria Island regions on Florida’s Gulf coast allows for stunningly vivid sunsets to be seen. With two decades of service, Yacht StarShip’s dining cruises have become a seaworthy staple.

He stands out from the rest by his capacity to customize trips based on every group’s individual desires and inclinations. No matter the purpose of your trip, be it with family or a special someone, you can count on an experience tailored to fit you. On every Island Way Excursion, there’s one person at the helm, ensuring your experience is both safe and unforgettable.

Remember, despite Florida’s warm days, evenings on the water can be cooler. So pack light jackets or sweaters to keep comfortable as the day turns into night. This ensures your focus remains solely on enjoying twilight’s soft hues rather than battling chills.

We had the pleasure of meeting Ken, the owner, at the boat before the trip. Captain Dave took us out for a mid afternoon cruise and he was awesome. He filled us in on the history of the area around the bay as we toured around. The boat itself was very, very nice and super comfortable. Choose between a private or shared boating experience, great for romantic couples evenings, family-friendly outings, birthday celebrations, vacations, staycations and more.

Beyond being an adept navigator, what makes his excursions stand out, even more, are the captivating stories about wildlife and insightful commentary on the area’s rich history shared during the journey. You can expect nothing less than an engaging and enriching trip. These trips are perfect for sharing precious moments with loved ones, marking a special celebration, or simply indulging in a tranquil retreat away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The spectacular palette of a Florida sunset over the Gulf of Mexico can shift dramatically depending on the time of year and prevailing weather conditions.

What to Know Before Booking a Mississippi River Cruise

ms river cruise

From the ship, it’s a short walk to a cruise highlight at the incredible complex of the Smithsonian-affiliated National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium. If we had to pick just one, September is the best month for a Mississippi River cruise. The weather is usually mild with less likelihood of rain, and autumn colors are beginning to paint the shoreline. Keep in mind, however, that the Mississippi is the fourth largest river in the world—so temperatures any time of year are not going to be the same in warmer Louisiana as they are in cooler Minnesota. The cost of a Mississippi River cruise can vary depending on the month you travel, the length of the cruise and ship-specific details like the type of cabin you book and additional excursion fees. If 2,350 miles of charming towns, beautiful landscapes, and bustling cities like New Orleans and St. Louis are calling you, you're in need of a Mississippi River cruise.

It’s Twilight Time

Another deciding factor for you could be the different lengths of itineraries offered. Each section of the river and cruise line operator has lengths varying from 5-day options to 22-day options. The Lower Mississippi has the longest season, typically running from November through December and April to mid-June, with most sailings on the bottom one-third of the river (New Orleans round trip or New Orleans to Memphis). American Queen Voyages, previously known as the American Queen Steamboat Company, operates three classic paddlewheelers on eight- to 15-night sailings on all of the Mississippi, along with the Cumberland and Tennessee rivers. Its fleet includes the American Queen, which holds the record as the biggest river steamboat.

Mississippi tour packages with 444 reviews

Just as it was back in Mark Twain’s day, every riverboat on the Mississippi River is unique due to fluctuating river conditions that can have an impact on our itinerary. This is part of the adventure and American Cruise Lines will always work to provide a seamless travel experience. There aren’t three-day Mississippi River boat cruises like the river cruises we’re used to that we are currently aware of. You can take a one-day excursion (that does not sail overnight and doesn’t go very far) or sign up for a cruise that is a minimum of 5 days.

Best cruise for music: Lower Mississippi (New Orleans to Memphis)

However, we hold true to our belief that river cruises are the best value out there. Galena is the historic town home to Ulysses S. Grant, the 18th president of the United States. You can take a trolley tour to see his home and other locally famous landmarks and historic sites, including its delightful main street with lots of shopping. Viking offers a special 15-day cruise that includes 11 different excursions.

The Best Mississippi River Cruises to Discover America's Heartland

End your day by relaxing at the Missouri Botanical Garden, one of the world’s most popular public gardens.

Best cruise for art and architecture: Upper Mississippi

Once serving as an antebellum sugar cane plantation, Oak Alley Plantation is rightfully named after its most distinguishing feature, a canopy of 300-year-old oak trees that form a quarter-mile path leading to the Mississippi River. Restored to its 19th-century grandeur, this classic Greek Revival-style antebellum mansion is simply breathtaking. You can’t miss Old Fort Madison, which brings history to life and allows visitors to experience the life of a soldier during the war of 1812. The most popular attraction here is the Figge Art Museum which has artworks dating from the 15th century. The new kid on the Mississippi is the Viking Mississippi, a 386-passenger, five-deck vessel that first set sail in September 2022. The cutting-edge cruise is Viking’s first foray in the US, adding to their fleet of more than 90 ocean, river, and expedition vessels navigating the world’s seven continents. After American Queen Voyages shut down in February, only two Mississippi River cruise lines currently remain in operation. The best times to take a Mississippi River cruise are during the fall, when gorgeous foliage is at its peak, and the spring, when temperatures are mild.

43 Carnival Cruise Line tips, tricks and hacks to enhance your vacation at sea

Carnival's website says power strips without surge protectors are allowed, but ones that the crew deems hazardous will be removed and returned to the owner on the last day of the cruise before disembarkation. Many hotels we've checked into have stopped offering daily cleaning since the coronavirus pandemic began, but we enjoyed a clean bathroom and fresh towels every day on the Carnival Legend. That said, we highly recommend looking at the deck plans to see what is above and below your cabin. In our specific case, the noise from other areas of the ship was easily heard in the cabin. There was still ample storage to keep suitcases and bag out of the way. Not only was there a closet with some drawers and shelves, but there was also plenty of room underneath the beds to put empty bags.

The newest, largest vessel is the 5,282-passenger Carnival Celebration. Alternatively, travelers can book their cruise and pay using Financing Powered by Uplift. Here are 43 Carnival Cruise Line tips, tricks and hacks that you can use to get maximum enjoyment out of your first Carnival cruise or next vacation at sea.

The kids' room had two twin beds and a sofa that converted into a third bed.

Special programs allow kids to see their favorite Dr. Seuss characters at sea, and adults can enjoy the enticing Alchemy Bar for one-of-a-kind cocktails. Carnival Freedom is ideal for first-time cruisers because of the lower guest capacity and the smaller ship size. But don’t let the numbers fool you; this ship is packed with high-energy activities for all ages; from the kid's clubs to the casino, there’s no lack of fun to be had. Carnival Splendor sails the Southern Hemisphere around Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific on cruises that range from two to 10 days. The ship has Carnival’s only quick-service Indian restaurant and boasts a pool with a retractable roof, so you can swim without worrying about the weather.

She wanted to pursue a career that highlighted her passion for travel and strengths as a writer. They’re not really any more spacious than a standard Interior, so you’re just getting a more premium version of the same room with access to that tranquil pool away from some of the noise of the family pools. In fact, the Mardi Gras doesn’t have any Interior rooms with an obstructed view at all.

It's not uncommon to find Carnival voyages to the Caribbean, Bahamas or Mexico starting well under $100 per person, per night including all taxes and fees — at least in the offseason. On most ships, smoking (including electronic cigarettes) is only allowed in designated outdoor areas and in casinos and nightclubs. On Carnival ships in Australia, smoking is only allowed in designated outdoor areas. On the vast majority of Carnival ships, there's not just a single waterslide but a whole water park area. Dubbed WaterWorks, these areas vary in size and features from vessel to vessel.

This was the case with Carnival Ecstasy, although the cabin was not as outdated as I anticipated. The first evening, we noticed the walls were more soundproof in the newer cabin compared to our older stateroom on Carnival Ecstasy. We were never able to hear our neighbors during the evening hours, which was a stark contrast to practically hearing every conversation from our neighbors on Carnival Ecstasy. During the evenings, there is an official dress code, but it's pretty laid-back. Most nights are designated "cruise casual," which means just that — khakis or jeans, polo shirts, sundresses, etc. Super casual items such as cutoff jeans, men's sleeveless shirts, T-shirts and gym shorts aren't permitted.

Finally, the cabin’s shower was the most pleasant surprise on Carnival Celebration! Most of the time, inside cabins feature small, capsule-shaped showers with very minimal space. With just one outlet, we were wishing we had packed a portable charger or a USB extender. The only USB extender that I cruise with plugs into European outlets, which has always proven to be useful.

An Interior stateroom on a cruise ship is one that is normally located on the inside of a ship away from the sides and does not have any windows. They’re normally the cheapest and smallest rooms on board and can sleep anywhere from 2 to 5 guests, depending on the cruise line. As noted above, Carnival ships generally don't offer a lot of suites. For the most part, the suites they have are relatively modest in size and amenities compared to the suites at some of the line's rivals. Carnival's newer ships have relatively few such cabins, as generally cabins that face outwards now are built with balconies. Inside cabins are the cabins you stay in when you're on a tight budget.

My husband and I stayed in a windowless interior cabin that had a king-size bed.

Having a comfortable place to sleep and shower is most important, and every cabin onboard a cruise ship will provide that. While we were surprised to see a more spacious shower in our bathroom, we were even more surprised to see the extended balcony stateroom had the exact same size shower as we did. The only difference between our inside cabin stateroom and the extended balcony cabin was the door. The newest cruise ships are being built with more balconies than any other stateroom category, and Carnival Celebration is no exception. As much as I love a balcony, it's not always in my budget to splurge on the up charge. Naturally, Carnival Horizon will deliver all the best tastes, sights, sounds and experiences cruisers have come to love aboard Carnival’s existing fleet of cruise ships.

Older ships only have a limited number of outlets, which can be an issue in this day and age of electronics and devices. We were surprised to see our stateroom could accommodate up to 4 people; it would have been very cramped in the cabin at full capacity unless the additional 2 guests were small children. Instead, I almost always book an inside cabin guarantee because it’s the cheapest option and I’d rather save my money on specialty dining or excursions.

One exception is the new Carnival Venezia, which has a darker (faux) wood finish to furniture in cabins that ties into the ship's Italy theme. Unlike some of its biggest competitors, Carnival isn't known for a huge range of cabin categories on its vessels. The dramatic evacuation of an expectant mother sailing aboard Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Fantasy was expertly completed by the United States Coast Guard (USCG) on April 15, 2024.

On Carnival Panorama, for instance, most inside cabins measure 185 square feet. That's the same size as the interior area of some oceanview and most balcony cabins on the ship (not including the extra square footage from the balcony). To a non-cruiser, the idea that you need space-saving hacks to travel comfortably at sea could be off-putting, but not all cruise lines and cabins are created equal. Aboard ships from Regent, Oceania, and other high-end lines, the focus is less on waterslides and roller coasters (yes, three Carnival ships feature one on board) and more on comfort. All of the line's cruise ships, built over decades, do not offer all of the same public spaces, restaurants and cabin styles.

Although the room was quite small at just 162 square feet, the lighting and design of the cabin made it feel more spacious with the space being well utilized. We had plenty of room to unpack for the four nights onboard Carnival Ecstasy. This is on the higher end of the spectrum for an average size of an inside cabin, as most standard inside cabins will likely fall between 150 and 190 square feet. Much to our surprise, our inside cabin on Carnival Ecstasy felt pretty spacious. I had low expectations for the room’s size, but it appears as though inside cabins have been getting smaller in size overtime as ships become bigger. Budget travelers will find the inside cabins very functional; we felt that Carnival utilized the space as best as the cruise line could.

Otherwise, you'll have to consider an ocean view room or two adjoining staterooms. Compared to older ships in the fleet, Carnival's new-builds have more balcony rooms available. This jumped to 46% on Carnival Panorama and 61% on Carnival Jubilee (Note that these calculations include suites, too). In general, interior cabins on Carnival range from about 155 to 185 square feet, making them more spacious than the inside rooms on some major competitors, like Norwegian Cruise Line!

You might also be able to explore a little in town before you board. The cabins feature plenty of storage space but only have one bathroom. Mom and Dad, consider leaving the bathroom squabbles to the young'uns, and shower at the spa.
